 23/2/10 AUSTRALIAN OPEN WATER CHAMPIONSHIPs

Lake Nagambie was the venue for the 2010 Australian Open Water Championships that were conducted on 20th and 21st February.  This event drew together Australia’s top open water swimmers.  Surrey Park was well represented by a team of 15 swimmers across both open and age events for the 5km and 10km distances.

While the weekend proved to be a roller-coaster for many of those involved, the meet provided a great learning opportunity for all those involved and the lessons learned will provide a good basis for future development. 

After two days of hectic racing, Surrey Park emerged once again the premier open water swimming club in Australia winning the C.B. Rickards trophy for the third year in succession.  It should be noted that every swimmer in the team earned points that contributed to the club’s victory against some of the powerhouse clubs from Queensland and NSW.

Well done to swimmers, coaches and team managers.

• Bethany Robertson (Gold – Australian Age Champion – Girls 15 yrs 10km)

23/2/10 ALL JUNIORS TRIALS

Surrey Park was well represented the Metro East All Junior trails held on 20th February.  Well done to all those swimmers that participated.  Congratulations to all those swimmers that qualified to progress on to the semi-finals.  These swimmers are Irene Paracki, Ella Donoghue, Rachael Thorpe, Brianna Golding, Saskia Dammer-Smith, Oscar Hillman, Connor Xu, Thomas Brenchley, Henry Good, Jeremy Burrill, Joshua Holding and Patrick Brenchley.

Semi-finals will be held at MSAC on 20th March 2010.
